It comes to you as a real shock when you don’t find your mobile phone in your vicinity. For some time this news can through you in a grinding halt and you turn unrest for a while. Many a times we loose the phone my our own mistake or sometimes it’s stolen. Whatever, might be the case it always hurts and make you panic. But, what if I say that you can actually recover your Windows Phone easily in minutes ?? Sounds great. Isn’t it ??
So, we are going to talk about the same here. For all Windows Phone mobile users there’s an in-built utility which can actually track your mobile phone’s location in times of any theft or lost. Find My Phone is a free in-built utility that runs on Windows Phone’s website which allows owners of the phone to ring, lock, erase and even track their phone on maps from any remote computer connected via Internet. In simple terms, it prevents your phone from going into wrong hands and forbids any unauthorized access.
In this tutorial, we will show some initial and quick steps that you need to undertake when you suddenly come to know that your phone is lost. With this service you can carry out the following three major activities :-
Map your phone’s location
Make your phone ring
- Erase the data on your phone.
Lock your phone and show a message
Steps to be followed
#1. First of all, you need to go to http://windowsphone.com and hover to the top right section where you will find the option “Find My Phone“. Click on the option and you will be prompted to Sign-in using a Microsoft account, if you don’t have one create it. It’s easy.
#2. If you want to map your phone’s location go to Find My Phone homepage and can then track your phone on Map. In case, if you lost track on the map while browsing you can select “Centre on map“. You can periodically “Refresh” the status and also take a printed copy of the same.
#3. To make your phone ring, click on “Ring” and then follow the on-screen instructions to make a call. Surprisingly, even if the phone is on Vibrate or Silent mode still a ringtone will be heard. It can prove to be very beneficial at times when you kept the phone somewhere in the home and don’t remember the location.
#4. If you’ve a suspicion that the phone might have gone in wrong hands you can even lock the phone and show a message. To do this, just Click “Lock” and follow the on-screen instructions. Soon the screen of the phone will be locked. If you have not set any password for you phone earlier you need to set up one. A customized message can also be framed (such as, with Name and Contact no.) which will be prompted on the screen and hence will help the person to contact you.
#5. If you’re pretty sure that there are no chance of getting your phone back then you can remotely wipe off all the data on the phone. Also, sometimes you may have critical information on the phone which you want to erase. In that case, just click ”Erase” and check the option “Yes! Erase my phone immediately” to confirm. You phone will be formatted straight away.
#6. Last but not the least, you can strengthen the security prior to the theft or lost by changing the settings on the phone. To do this, move to App List on your phone, then Settings -> Find My Phone. Here, you can opt for service like, sending Push Notification instead of SMS or microsoft will send the phone’s location periodically till the battery drains out completely.
To make you aware of these services is our duty but to follow it is up to you. Infact, I would say that this is a great service provided by Microsoft which removes the headache of installing an extra app for the same purpose, as is the case with Android.
